Unsurpassed!!

Bose are simply the best! I have the portable soundock and the in-ear 'phones which have to be heard to be believed. I purchased these noise-cancelling headphones as a Christmas present from me to me and I couldn't be more delighted. They truly eliminate ALL background noise to the point where you can't hear yourself speak!! They are soooo comfortable they can stay on for hours without any discomfort or movement. Just try them, you WON'T send them back.

I bought these from QVC recently after a lot of consideration, due to the price! However, they are outstanding! The audio quality is unsurpassed, the build quality outstanding, all in all well worth the money. Why then have I given them only 4 stars? The one drawback with them is there is a known compatibility problem with Archos products. I own an Archos 705 and bought these to compliment that. When I used them with my laptop or iPod there was no problem, but plug them into my Archos and I was getting a constant, annoying background hiss. I contacted Bose to be told that they know about the problem and to try using the supplied aircraft adaptor with the one pin folded down, as this may cure it. Luckily it worked, although with slightly reduced volume, so I can use them to listen to my films as well as my music. As long as you bear this problem in mind they are well worth the money and you should be very pleased with them, as am I!

Being the owner of a wave system, the portable sound dock and the in ear headphones, (all totally superb) when my friend wanted over the ear headphones I automatically suggested the bose noise cancelling. A considered purchase and after much deliberation and checking out the alternatives, these were sent for. Well worth the money. Extremely comfortable and my friend is over the moon with the sound quality. Only thing is now he is constantly plugged in and cannot hear anything I say!

Beware of cheap alternatives

I was interested to try these headphones since I already owned a pair of noise cancelling headphones. I already knew that the noise cancelling reduced the amount of noise on aeroplanes, making it easier to listen to the in-flight film, etc.
Where these headphones differ from my cheap alternatives is that they actually sample the sound and reduce it. This means that background hum, which is present even in relatively quiet environments, practically disappears. With the cheap headphones there was a noticeable hiss in this situation, which became quite distracting. On an aeroplane, the noise heard is significantly reduced but not entirely eliminated, however the sound quality is good.
A ship is a failrly noisy environment, mainly due to the air conditioning and ventilation systems, and the headphones coped very well. The noise level almost disappeared.
I have just returned from a journey where I was able to use the headphones in the situations mentioned above and I was very impressed.
