Great Camera
Posted30 April 2013
My wife bought me this camera to replace an old DSLR. I was continually changing lenses and of course had to carry them around with me. Well this little beauty solves that with one super zoom lens. The quality of the photos I have taken so far are better than my old DSLR. I have even got some pin sharp photos of birds in neighbouring gardens and at some distance. This camera is heavier than others but has a lovely solid feel, similar to a DSLR. The manual zoom is a joy to use, as opposed to most bridge cameras that have a motorised one. I have hardly used the host of features it has but do not envisage anything but pleasure as I work my way around this brilliant piece of kit. As some other reviews have said, use a class 10 SD card for outstanding performance.

Fuji Review

The one thing that attracted me to this bridge camera was the fact it went down to an aperture of F2.8 and the large zoom on it which was all in one camera and it would be much easier than lugging around my SLR with its various lenses.
I have tried to give constructive criticism for this camera as what suits one doesn't always suit another. It isn't the camera for me though.
The first thing I did when I got the camera was put a protective lens cover over it which is something I would recommend to all camera users - a Hoya 58mm UV(c) is fine.
The second is not to use the memory card that came with the camera as it is too slow, ideally use a class 10 card as you will find it much faster.
The macro facility on the camera is excellent, you only get the aperture of F2.8 providing you don't extend the lens at all, I got some really good images from this.
However the downside is that on the Aperture Priority mode you can only go up to F8 and on Manual mode F11. I would have liked to have had the option to increase the aperture further which is not available on this camera.
The zoom is ok, yes it can go to 1000mm but when taking a photo using this, the clarity of the image is not that good. Fuji would have been better reducing the zoom where a clearer image could have been produced rather than what they have done.
Overexposure was a problem, whether it be flowers or my white cat which resembled a fluffy cloud!. After looking at a review website I found that this was a problem with some Fuji cameras.
In summary, macro images are very good as is the wide angled lens for landscape photography and providing you only use the zoom to about 500ish then you will get some good images. It is good that you have the option to shoot in JPEG & RAW although you will need to update Photoshop to 7.4 to be able to view the images in RAW.
Downside - images not clear when using the camera to 1000mm, apeture does not go high enough & overexposure for me was a big no no.
I did not use the recording mode so am unable to comment on this.
If you want a good all round camera then it will suit you but it wasn't the camera for me.

I tried this camera and put it through its paces ,it took some excellent photos particularly using spot metering but it aso took some mediocre ones as well. You certainly will have better results using San disk pro 95 mg transfer speed it makes an enormous difference. The on off switch is poor it turns on at the slightest touch. After a lot of thought I decided it wasn't for me so have returned it
